Cairo – Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit chaired on Monday a meeting with the secretariat senior officials to follow-up on the preparations for the 28th Arab League Summit, which will be held in Jordan in March.

The Arab League spokesman, Minister Mahmoud Afifi, said that the secretary general was briefed during the meeting, on the outcome of a visit conducted by a delegation from the secretariat general to Amman, to coordinate arrangements and preparations for the Summit.

Abul Gheit stressed the need for the different secretariat’s departments to intensify efforts to secure the success of the Summit, in cooperation with the hosting country.

He noted in this regard that the imminent Summit was expected to push the Arab joint work forward, especially on the political, economic and social levels.

Afifi also said that Abul Gheit listened to a detailed presentation on the major items that would be discussed on the Summit agenda, in addition to the topics that will be tackled by the Arab League Economic and Social Council.

For his part, Assistant Secretary General Hossam Zaki said that the delegation to Amman discussed logistic arrangements and top priority issues for the Arab region, in particular the situation in the Middle East.

He added that the secretariat general was currently preparing all necessary documents related to Syria, Yemen, Libya and Palestine, as well as issues related to national security and fighting terrorism.

The Arab Summit, which will be held on March 29, will be preceded by preparatory meetings that would begin in February, with the holding of the Economic and Social Council Meeting and the meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers at the beginning of March.
