Gulf diplomatic sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the GCC foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled to be held in Riyadh tomorrow will discuss vital issues relating to the protection of Arab national security and the preparation of a comprehensive dossier about Iranian interference in Arab affairs and the Lebanese Hezbollah’s involvement with Iran in carrying out terrorist operations in the region. The sources stressed that this dossier will be broached on an international and Arab level.

The sources added that the issue of Iranian interference has become “dangerous” and stressed the need to take this matter seriously and “take urgent action to stop the expansion of Iranian terrorism”.

Arab League states will include the issue of Iranian interference in Arab affairs as a permanent item at each of its meetings. This topic and new developments will be discussed at the 145th session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers scheduled for Thursday. Meanwhile, a number of Arab countries have submitted official diaries with records of Iranian interventions in their affairs.

In a related development, the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed during a joint press conference with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Abu Dhabi yesterday that Iranian interference has become a burden on the region and pointed out that Iran’s attempts to meddle in Arab affairs continue to take place.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed pointed out that Iran has demonstrated receptivity to dialogue with the world during its negotiations with the P5 + 1 group on the nuclear deal, and therefore it is important that it shows this receptivity towards neighbouring countries.
