Cairo – Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Ghait is finalizing preparations for the Arab Summit that will be held in Mauritania’s capital Nouakchott on 25 and 26 July.

Abul Ghait held extensive meetings with officials from different departments of the Arab League Secretariat, in order to discuss the efforts deployed by these departments and find the means to promote joint Arab cooperation in various fields of work.

Mahmoud Afifi, the Secretary General’s spokesman, said that Abul Ghait met with the directors of the economic and social departments, and listened to the ongoing preparations for the meetings of the Ministerial Economic and Social Council of the Arab League, which will be held ahead of the Arab Summit.

Sources told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that the first delegation from the Arab League would arrive in Nouakchott on July 14th in order to finalize the arrangements completed by the Mauritanian government.

The sources added that other Arab delegations would arrive in Mauritania as of July 19th, as preparatory meetings of delegates and high-ranking officials would begin on July 20th, followed by the meetings of the Economic and Social Council and the Arab foreign affairs.

The sources also said that a Mauritanian information committee was formed to facilitate the work of journalists and reporters at the Summit. The committee is headed by Mauritanian president’s advisor.

Afifi affirmed the secretary general’s keenness to promote the work of the Arab League Secretariat General in the economic and social fields, which have a direct influence on the daily life of Arab citizens.

He also highlighted the rising economic and social challenges on the national, regional and international levels.

Afifi said that Abul Ghait laid great importance on continuous cooperation between the different administrations of the Arab League Secretariat, stressing the need to raise competencies and performance to the highest levels through modern training techniques and expertise sharing.
