Ankara- Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met Tuesday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the presidential palace in Ankara.

The meeting, which lasted for one hour and a half in the presence of Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu, tackled the latest developments in the Qatari crisis with the Arab Quartet, Turkish sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.

Sources added that the Turkish party stressed Ankara’s continued support for Qatar and the efforts aiming at resolving the crisis.

The meeting was preceded by talks between Cavusoglu and his Qatari counterpart. The two parties reviewed bilateral relations and means of boosting them in addition to issues of common concern and a number of regional issues.

Qatari FM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani briefed his Turkish counterpart on the latest developments in the Gulf crisis and the role played by Turkey to support Qatar in various fields.

The Qatari Minister’s visit came the day before Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak al-Ahmad al-Sabbah’s four-day visit to Ankara at the invitation of Turkish Prime Minister Benali Yildirim.

Sheikh Jaber is set to meet President Erdogan and discuss the Qatari crisis and mediation efforts made by Kuwait.

Kuwait’s Ambassador in Ankara Ghassan al-Zawawi termed as “important” the upcoming visit of Sheikh Jaber to Turkey.

Zawawi said in a statement Tuesday that this visit comes in light of the regional and international challenges facing the region that require cooperation and joint coordination, stressing the importance of uniting efforts and common visions between Kuwait and Turkey to face common challenges.
