St. Petersburg, Asharq Al-Awsat—Russia’s President Vladimir Putin received Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in St. Petersburg on Thursday.

Putin welcomed Prince Mohammed, emphasizing the significance of relations between Moscow and Riyadh. The Russian president renewed his invitation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz to visit Russia.

Prince Mohammed, who arrived in Russia on Wednesday on an official visit, conveyed the greetings of King Salman to the Russian president.

They discussed bilateral relations and means to boost cooperation between the two countries in the fields of peaceful use of nuclear energy, military and technical cooperation, housing and energy, among others.

The two officials discussed recent developments in the region.

The meeting witnessed the signing of six agreements and several memoranda of understanding between the two countries in the military, technical, energy and housing sectors.

The meeting was attended by a number of Saudi officials, including Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Al-Naimi, Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir and Chief of General Intelligence Khalid Al-Homaida.

Among those who attended from the Russian side were Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu.

Russia’s Deputy Minister of Construction Industry, Housing and Utilities Sector Andrey Chibis told Asharq Al-Awsat on Thursday: “Today we signed a joint strategic document on boosting cooperation between the two countries in the fields of housing and construction and exchanging housing technology and investment.”
