New Delhi- Japanese ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu supported New Delhi stance towards the disputed territory Doklam – a region controlled by China while Bhutan claims national sovereignty over it. This is the first declared support from a huge international force in the clashes that lasted two months between India and China.

Unlike the US, Russia and other European forces, Japan didn’t support India discreetly. Tokyo saw that there shouldn’t be individual attempts to change the current situation through using force.

In response to the Japanese stance, Beijing criticized Tokyo that it is trying to mobilize international support over the disputed Senkaku and Diaoyudao islands in East China Sea through following this strategy.

The Chinese and Indian forces clashed in Doklam following Chinese forces quest to build a road in the disputed region. However, China claimed that the road is in its territory and reiterated demands that Indian forces withdraw promptly from Doklam.

For its part, Moscow abstained from interfering in the ongoing clash in Himalayas since it considers both states as strategic partners. Yet, analysts see that the main reason is that India and China are major states in Russian arms sales deals – they both seal billion dollars’ worth deals to purchase military equipment and arms from Russia.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the upcoming Russian-Indian maneuvers are not targeted against Beijing.

Russia and China signed a road map for military cooperation 2017-2020, and both states’ presidents expressed repeatedly the amicable ties. Yet, Russia stated that ties with India surpass any new friendships that might occur.
