Manama–Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said one woman was killed and three children injured in a bomb blast on Thursday.

Shrapnel hit the car the woman was in, the Bahraini police said.

Security forces were investigating the scene of the attack in the village of East Eker, south of Bahrain’s capital, Manama, according to an Interior Ministry statement.

The explosion was carried out by terrorists, according to the police.

“A terrorist act on Thursday claimed the life of a woman and injured three children who were with her in a car that was hit by shrapnel after a bomb exploded,” the director general of Manama’s police directorate was quoted as saying by state media.

“The crime scene team and other security authorities responded to the blast area shortly after the case was reported to the Operations Room on Thursday night”, he added.

The ministry said it had launched an investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the bombing.

In April, a policeman was killed in a “terrorist attack” in the village of Karbabad after a police patrol was attacked with firebombs.

Bahraini security sources told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that the bomb was intended at killing civilians, adding that investigations were underway to reveal the circumstances of the incident.
Saudi Arabia assailed the terrorist bombing and reiterated its unwavering support to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

An official source at the Saudi Foreign Affairs ministry extended the Kingdom’s condolences to Bahrain, wishing the children a speedy recovery.
Bahrain’s Shura Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist blast.

“The criminal act stemmed from an extremist mindset of sabotage, which is alien to peace-loving Bahraini society”, it said in a statement, denouncing all forms of violence and terrorism which seek to subvert national security and target innocent people’s lives.

The statement reiterated unflinching support to the enforcement of the law on the perpetrators and masterminds of the criminal act, as well as the instigators.

The Shura Council expressed full confidence in the ability of the security authorities to thwart all that threatens Bahrain’s security and stability.

Jordan also condemned the terrorist blast in Bahrain. Jordanian State Minister for Media Affairs Dr. Mohammed Al-Momeni stressed his country’s support to Bahrain in its war on terrorism which is targeting innocent people. He extended the Jordanian government’s condolences to Bahrain on the death of the Bahraini woman, wishing the injured children a speedy recovery and praying to Allah the Almighty to protect Bahrain and its people.

The Qatar Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Doha condemns this criminal act which aims to terrorize people contrary to all human values, principles and teachings of Islamic Shariah.
Qatar emphasized its solidarity and keenness to stand alongside its brothers in Bahrain.
