Manama – A terrorist cell of four or five members, armed with automatic rifles and pistols, was involved in an attack on the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre (Jau) at approximately 5:30 am on Sunday. Ten inmates, all convicted in previous terrorist cases, escaped the prison.

Ministry of Interior Affairs said the attack led to the death of a policeman, Abdulsalam Saif Ahmed and to the injury of another during the attack.

Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the circumstances of the case.

Security authorities immediately carried out required procedures at the prison and its surroundings and the Public Prosecution was notified. Investigations and search intensified to locate and arrest the convicts.

The terrorist escapees are: Ahmed Mohammed Saleh Mohammed al-Sheikh, 26, serving 73 years in jail; Ammar Abdullah Isa Abdulhussain, 28, serving life imprisonment in addition to 2 years; Mohammed Ibrahim Mulla Redhi Al Tooq, 26, serving to 28 years in jail; Hassan Abdullah Isa Abdulhussain, 24, serving life imprisonment; Isa Musa Abdullah Hassan, 24, serving life imprisonment; Hussain Atiyah Mohammed Saleh, 37, serving life imprisonment; Sadiq Jafar Salman Hussain, 27, serving life imprisonment in addition to 41 years; Abdulhussain Juma Hassan Ahmed al-Onaisi, 31, serving life imprisonment; Redha Abdullah Isa al-Ghasra, 29, serving life imprisonment in addition to 79 years; and Hussain Jassim Isa Jassim al-Bana, 27, serving 43 years in jail.

Interior Ministry called upon those with any information, about the escaping convicts or the terrorists who assisted them, to contact the authorities – confirming that all calls will be treated as anonymous.

The ministry warned against aiding or abetting prisoners who are escaping.
