Manama – Bahraini Authorities began the implementation of security measures during Ashura. Authorities confirmed that the installed security surveillance cameras in Bahraini capital, Manama, are to maintain security and safety of residents and citizens.

Manama Governor Hisham Al Khalifa said that the cameras have been installed for security purposes and are not linked to specific locations or occasions. He added that there have mounted cameras around mosques and funeral houses based on the directions of Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Waqf following terrorist incidents in mosques of the area.

Public Security chief Tariq al-Hassan said “The police are fully committed to carrying out their duties to maintain security, public order and people’s safety.”

Hassan explained to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that a security plan was devised earlier this year. He added that Ashura commemoration takes place every year in Bahrain and the security forces have a plan which engages all parties to ensure it remains within its religious scope and that the law is respected.

Hassan added that the interior ministry respects all religious occasions and provides all necessary security services on all of them.

“Misusing the occasion to engage in criminal activity will not be allowed and those in charge of the commemoration events should make sure to keep the religious aspect of Ashura as the focus of the activities,” Hasan warned.

Hasan pointed out that there are specific places for banners and slogans to be hung up. He also confirmed on the role of citizens and residents in preventing threats against the security.
