Manama- Bahraini Information Minister Ali al-Rumaihi has said that the latest operation to foil an attempt by terrorists to flee to Iran is a strong message to all those seeking to destabilize Bahrain.

In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Rumaihi said Bahrain is going ahead with its fight against terrorism due to the alertness and competency of its security agencies.

The minister vowed to uproot terrorism through the arrest of terrorist cells and networks, including those who have planned, funded, incited and executed attacks.

Previous investigations into terrorist plots and attacks proved the involvement of Iran’s revolutionary guards and terrorist parties allied with it, said Rumaihi.

On Thursday, Bahrain’s authorities foiled an attempt by fugitives to flee to Iran by land and sea. The operation left three terrorists dead and led to the arrest of eight others, including several inmates who had escaped Jau prison in January.

The detainees had telecommunications equipment that proved their contact with terrorists and parties in Iran to coordinate with them their escape once out of Bahraini territorial waters.

Rumaihi expressed pride at the unity expressed by Gulf Cooperation Council states and their support for Bahrain’s security and stability.

The security of the Arabian Gulf is indivisible. The GCC will confront threats and attempts by extremist groups to smuggle weapons and explosives, and to help wanted individuals, he told Asharq al-Awsat.

The GCC is adamant to call on Iran to hold onto the policy of good neighbor and to respect international conventions, Rumaihi said.

He added that Tehran should not use its territories to harbor terrorists and should stop meddling in the internal affairs of Gulf states.
