Bahraini High Court of Appeal Approves Verdicts against 9 Terrorists | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Manama – Bahraini High Court of Appeal approved the verdict issued by the High Criminal Court to imprison seven out of the 14 convicts in the case of terrorism. The court also reduced the sentence of five other convicts to 15 years in prison.

In addition, the court approved the ruling in the case of the thirteenth and fourteenth convicts which included one-year imprisonment and deportation from Bahrain.

Deputy Prosecutor of Terror Crime Prosecution, Khalid al-Tameemi, said the High Court of Appeal ruled in the case of attempted murder, illegal possession and use of explosives to undermine people lives and assets, deliberate arson and acts of sabotage for terrorist purposes.

The list of charges against 14 convicts also included forgery, rioting, illegal gathering, possession and use of combustible devices.

The court ruled by accepting the appeal in form regarding seven suspects. The court also ruled by accepting the appeal in form by amending the penalty to fifteen years’ incarceration and rejected the appeal in subject regarding five suspects but otherwise upheld the appealed verdict.

The High Criminal Court had earlier sentenced the first to the twelfth suspects, each to a life in jail term, confiscation of the materials seized in their possession, stripping of their citizenship, and one year in jail for the thirteenth and fourteenth suspects and deportation of both of them from the Kingdom of Bahrain after serving their respective jail term.

The suspects had caused six terror blasts targeting public security men in al-Qurayyah in 2013 and 2014. The suspects had been arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution after explosives in their possession had been seized.
