Manama- Bahrain has executed three men convicted of killing three police officers in a terrorist bomb attack, the authorities said.

Head of Terrorist Crime Prosecution Ahmad Al Hammadi said that the executions were carried out on Sunday morning by firing squad and in the presence of a judge, representatives from the public prosecution, the prison warden, a doctor and a preacher as stipulated by the law.

The killing occurred on March 3, 2014 in the village of Daih when the three convicted lured the police officers to the incident site by sparking riots that demanded security intervention. Then, a bomb went off, leaving three police officers dead and 13 injured.

Investigations of the Public Prosecution revealed that two suspects formed terrorist groups, within Saraya al-Ashtar, and succeeded in mobilizing others who have experience in using and manufacturing explosives.

In the day before the attack, three bombs were planted – one of the two suspects received orders to trigger the first bomb, which killed three police officers. The other two explosives went off under the supervision of a third suspect.

The Public Prosecution referred the convicted to the High Criminal Court for forming and managing a group that aims at sabotaging the constitution and disrupting operations of state institutions.

According to the pubic prosecution, they resorted to terrorism to achieve their objectives, mobilize additional members, continue activities of manufacturing and using explosives and targeting police officers.

The High Criminal Court issued a death sentence in the case of the three convicted men and sentences of life imprisonment and of stripping nationality for others.

The Bahraini High Court of Appeal endorsed the sentences as well.

On Monday, the Cassation Court upheld the death sentence and the verdict became final and enforceable.

In a related matter, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior tweeted that a terrorist shooting took place in Bani Jamra and left one police officer injured.

The ministry added that relevant authorities have taken necessary procedures.

Saraya al-Ashtar, for its part, claimed responsibility for the operation, knowing that this organization is designated as terrorist and its leaders take Iran as their base.
