Manama– Bahriani Ministry of Interior announced it had arrested a terrorist cell as part of counter-terrorism operations and in continuation of the investigation into the Duraz blast on June 18 during which one policeman was killed and two others seriously injured.
The ministry revealed that there is a link between the two suspects and terrorist leaders residing in Iran.
The terrorist cell is part of al-Ashtar Brigades targeting the security and stability of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as a security source informed Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
Following the investigations, the ministry apprehended terrorists who executed the assault in Duraz and was able to identify other suspects.
The ministry announced the names of the criminals of the Duraz attack: Hasan Abdullah Marhoon Rashid and Sayed Mohammed Qassim Mohammed Hassan Fadhel.
Rashid, 26, was arrested and a Kalashnikov gun seized from him. He had been convicted for a blast in Duraz in October 2014, an arson attack and for assaulting police personnel.
Fadhel, 25, is a fugitive. He was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in a bomb blast in Duraz in February 2016 and for manufacturing and possessing bombs.
The investigation also revealed that the terror group operated, in terms of financing, planning and execution, under the direct supervision of: Hussain Ali Ahmed Dawood, 31, who is a fugitive in Iran. Dawood’s nationality has been revoked. He was involved in setting up many terror cells and plotting terrorist crimes which resulted in the deaths of policemen.
Dawood was sentenced to life in prison in three cases and received a 15-year jail term in one case. He also works as a field coordinator for al-Ashtar Brigades terrorist group and has strong ties with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Coprs (IRGC) and the wanted Murtadha al-Sindi.
The cell is also linked to Ahmed Mohammed Ali Mahdi Ibrahim Zain al-Deen, 25, fugitive, and convicted in cases related to forming terror cells involved in committing terrorist acts, attacking police patrols with homemade weapons and possessing bombs.
The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science has taken the relevant legal actions and referred the case to the Public Prosecutor. The investigation will continue until remaining suspects are arrested.
The Interior Ministry reaffirmed that it will continue its counter-terrorism operations until all terrorists are brought to justice and security of the nation, safety of the public and civil peace are maintained.
