Dammam- Saudi Aramco said on Tuesday it had put out a minor fire at its Ras Tanura oil terminal.

It was reported that eight workers have sustained injuries as a result of the fire, including six contractors and two Aramco employees; the injured have received medical treatment.

In a statement posted on its website, it said the fire, which took place at around 9am Saudi local time and hit the North pier had not affected operations.

Aramco said the “minor fire incident” did not affect the facility’s oil and gas operations. The Ras Tanura terminal has a crude oil refining capacity of 550,000 barrels per day.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known. The Company will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause,” The state-owned oil firm said, adding that its oil and gas operations were not affected.

One trader said the berth concerned had been shut for maintenance, expected to last six months, since May this year.

The terminal in the east of Saudi Arabia is owned and operated by Saudi Aramco. It also operates a refinery in Ras Tanura, its largest in the country.

The Ras Tanura refinery, which exports naphtha, fuel oil and middle distillates, will be shut for scheduled maintenance in December this year.
