Yemeni Governmental Delegation Ready to Sign an Agreement at Peace Talks | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Kuwait- Under U.N. sponsorship and warm hospitality, Kuwait is expected to hold the Yemeni peace talks as of today. Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr said that “the government is spending great efforts to achieve peace which will restore the government.”

Deputy PM and Yemeni government delegation member Abdulaziz Jabari told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the political leadership have granted the pro-legitimacy delegation the capacities required to sign any agreement which leads to the restoration of governmental institutions, withdrawal of militias and the release of those held captive, which all guarantees the best interest of Yemenis and reinstates stability.

On the other hand Yemen’s Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi said that “based on the Gulf initiative and the outcome of national discussions, the government is prepared for political transition.”

FM Al-Mekhlafi also spoke to Saba News Agency, Yemen’s official news outlet, and said “we will not keep anyone out, including Houthis.”

Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah yesterday met the U.N. special envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah was also present.

On the other hand, Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalid Sulaiman Al Jarallah expressed high hopes held for the Yemeni negotiations proving successful and leading to signing a permanent truce, which would finally put an end to the crisis devastating their country.

Field wise, Popular Resistance sources spread in Taiz and many other cities have registered multiple occasions of violation committed by Houthi militias.

The armed insurgents have violated the agreement on cessation of hostilities- which was put in effect prior the launch of negotiations- by attacking the headquarters of the 35th armored brigade, belonging to the 4th Yemeni military district. The militias have also pounded the Thaba’at neighborhood, located east of the Salh District.
