Riyadh – Senior Syrian rebel negotiator, heading the current Syrian Opposition delegation sent to the peace talks held in the Kazakh capital, Astana, Mohammad Alloush said that the negotiations are not entirely a success, but have not failed either.

Alloush highlighted that the opposition is not willing to compromise any of its requests irrespective of strongly other parties as the negotiations try to force its hand.

Speaking of the rumored talks to be held by the Russian capital, Moscow, Alloush said that he has yet not received an official invitation to attend the talks.

Russia’s reservation on inviting the Jaysh al-Islam leader, even though the talks are meant to be attended by both Syrian regime representation and opposition delegations, is a negative development against finding a solution for the war-torn country.

More so, Alloush reiterated that so long Iran-backed extremist Shi’ite militias are in Syria, there will be no realistic resolution.

Iran’s proxy militias continue to slaughter and besiege the Syrian people — noting that the ceasefire presented by the opposition at the Astana talks has not been implemented.

The Syrian rebel leader added that the talk of a new constitution for Syria is an untimely and unproductive discourse, seeing that it is a disguised attempt to drag the opposition into measures prior to the regime presenting any assurances.

Speaking of Kurdish parties involved in the Syria conflict, Alloush said that the opposition is highly attentive to the Kurdish dilemma and is in direct contact and discussions with the Kurdish National Council (KNC) Ibrahim Birro, who is currently attending the Astana talks on behalf of the Syrian opposition.

Alloush explained that the KNC is not comparable to the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Syria. He says that the KNC is highly considered with patriotism, unlike the PYD whose units continue to practice slaughter, uprooting of civilians, and coercion.

The PYD does not speak for the entire Kurdish community in Syria, said Alloush.

Rights of Kurds and the people of Syria are one — the Syrian opposition doesn’t differentiate between the people based on sect of party, but calls for a unified future, added Alloush.

He continued saying that international forces who had resorted to PYD units on Syrian battlefronts will discard of them as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
