Riyadh – Chairman of Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko lauded the important role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in the region to promote international security and peace.

This came following a meeting on Sunday with the Speaker of Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh.

She also met with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Matvienko stressed Russia’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia in various fields, especially in the economic sector and investments in the petrochemical and atomic energy industries.

She also pointed out to the existing agreements between the two countries, which she said would contribute to the development of bilateral relations in the future in different fields.

“Our countries have some differences of opinion on a number of regional and international issues, but we have a common desire to fight terrorism and combat terrorist organizations,” she said.

Matviyenko, who is leading a 15-member Russian delegation, arrived in Riyadh on Saturday. The delegation included eight members of Russian parliament, in addition to seven officials. She will wrap up her three-day visit on Monday after visiting some historical places including the national museum.
