Riyadh-Saudi Arabia has done yet another humanitarian act, supporting refugees all over the world.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said Saudi Arabia is committed to providing more support to aid refugees at a U.N. summit on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Leaders’ Summit on Refugees in New York, Prince Mohammed said the Kingdom is a pioneer in providing humanitarian assistance and highlighted the kingdom’s work with a number of agencies to support refugees.

The Crown Prince thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, who pledged to provide a further $75 million to aid refugees in coordination with international organizations.

Regional Representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to the GCC Countries Khaled Khalifa said that Saudi Arabia’s pledge to provide $75 million to support refugees is unprecedented and arises from the leading humanitarian approach adopted by King Salman in light of the worsening refugee crisis around the world.

Khalifa told Asharq Al-Awsat that Saudi Arabia has proven its efficiency in the field of international humanitarian actions to aid victims of crises such as refugees from Syria, Yemen, Iraq and other countries that suffer from natural disasters or armed conflicts.

He noted that the High Commission highly appreciates this generous pledge and looks forward for this active cooperation with Saudi Arabia during the coming period.

Moreover, Secretary General of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO) Dr. Saleh bin Hamad al-Suhaibani explained that the Saudi support for organizations in the field of humanitarian aids is not new.

Al-Suhaibani told Asharq Al-Awsat that Saudi Arabia is considered one of the most prominent countries in supporting international initiatives that provide aid for refugees and victims.

He said that it is hard to determine the amount of money Saudi Arabia has spent so far in supporting international humanitarian organizations, as aid has been offered in different forms such as direct support, funding for social development institutions and providing facilitations.
