Riyadh – The Gulf States have made a huge progress in launching the GCC joint police force, revealed a security officer.

GCC Assistant Secretary General for Security Affairs Major General Hazza’a al-Hajri said: “The joint police force has made huge strides and has achieved a breakthrough.”

He noted that five members from every state were chosen to be in the GCC police headquarters, which will work on coordinating and exchanging information to maintain the Gulf stability.

Hajri added that during the first meeting of the security chiefs in the Gulf States they discussed mutual security topics as well as fighting terrorism and drugs. He described the level of Gulf security cooperation in the field of exchanging information as “excellent, and witnessing an improvement.”

During his speech, Hajri pointed out that there are security challenges facing the nations and countries including the skewed intellect and its consequences on coexistence and development.

Bahrain’s General Security Head Major General Tareq al-Hassan said that “Saraya al-Ashtar” designated as a terrorist group by the US authorities was receiving support from Iran to implement its terrorist plots.

Hassan added to Asharq Al-Awsat: “The cell threatens the Bahraini and Gulf security and aims at shaking stability in Saudi Arabia.”

He noted that the pace of challenges and threats has increased in security, economic and social fields.

“This is manifested in the spread and exacerbation of terrorism in all forms, the threat of maritime, violent intellectual extremism, organized crimes, cyber-crimes and threats posed to the lives of citizens,” he added.
