The Saudi popular campaign to provide relief to the Syrian people which was ordered to be organised by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz continues to receive donations from all over the country for the second day in a row. Donations made to the campaign totalled $48.5 million (182.1 million riyals) at 10pm local time. The general supervisor of the King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Aid Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah said that the Saudi aid will be allocated to those displaced within Syria.

In a telephone conversation with Asharq Al-Awsat yesterday, Dr Al-Rabiah said that the national campaign that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz ordered coincides with the onset of winter during which Syrian areas experience a significant decline in temperature. The cold temperatures make the already difficult conditions in the country harder.

Dr Al-Rabiah also pointed out that the funds donated will contribute to providing food, health care, shelter and clothing to the Syrian people. He also stressed that the work carried out by the centre is neutral and that it provides assistance to the needy regardless of their identity. He continued by saying that the centre will identify regions that are most needy regardless of the gender, colour, race and religion of the people residing in them.
