Riyadh- An Algerian diplomat confirmed the importance of the visit made by Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Qader Msahel to Saudi Arabia on Monday.

In a phone call with Asharq Al-Awsat, he pointed out that the visit comes as a continuation of the path of bilateral relations, stressing that the exchange of visits between the officials of the two countries promotes aspects of joint cooperation.

Algerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Abdel-Saduq told Asharq Al-Awsat that the ministers discussed a number of topics that concern the two countries.

Minister Msahel arrived in Jeddah on Monday afternoon and met Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at his office in Salam Palace.

The two officials addressed joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, and the meeting tackled regional developments and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, according to SPA.

The visit of the Algerian minister to Saudi Arabia is the first in his Arab tour to eight countries to discuss several regional issues.

Msahel also met with his Saudi counterpart Adel al-Jubeir in the headquarters of the ministry in Jeddah as both parties discussed boosting bilateral relations, joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and subjects of common interest.

Crises and conflicts in the Arab world were addressed during the meeting, in particular those in the Gulf, Libya, Yemen, Syria as well as the Palestinian cause.

The Algerian ambassador to Saudi Arabia said that the Foreign Minister has concluded his first round of talks in Saudi Arabia and will head to Cairo to continue his tour.
