President Omar Al-Bashir announced that the ceasefire in Sudan will be extended until the end of the year in the areas of Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan. He also announced that a national mechanism would be formed to draft a permanent constitution for the country, and renewed his calls for the opposition to join efforts to implement the national document that was signed by parties who participated in the national dialogue.

The presidents of Egypt, Mauritania, Chad and Uganda, as well as the Secretary Generals of the Arab League and the the Organization of Islamic Cooperation confirmed that they will support Sudan until stability, security and compatibility is achieved amongst all factions.

After receiving the national document that emerged from the national dialogue that lasted for a whole year at the General Assembly for national dialogue, Al-Bashir called on political forces that declined to participate in the Wathba dialogue not to “miss this historic opportunity” and ensure that they are part of the “unprecedented national consensus”. He continued by announcing that the current ceasefire would be extended till the end of this year.

Al-Bashir also revealed that he had received a phone call from the leader of the opposition party, the National Ummah Party, Sadiq Al-Mahdi who lives in the Egyptian capital Cairo. Al-Bashir said that he told Al-Mahdi that “his natural place was at the dialogue”.
