Ramadi- Iraqi security forces managed to lift the blockade which has long distressed the two cities of Albaghdadi and Haditha. The besiegement, previously imposed by ISIS terrorists, had been ongoing for two years.
Connecting the two cities, the recently freed pathways now ensure the security of the terrain. The topography connecting Baghdad to Haditha and passing Fallujah and Ramadi is now completely restored to the hands of authority.
The Anbar Governorate is, geographically, the largest governorate in Iraq and encompasses much of the country’s western territory. The region shares borders with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Security forces are currently advancing, freeing western cities of the Anbar governorate from ISIS’s upper-hand. Anbar governorate council member, Nahla al-Rawi told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that freeing the two cities is the greatest victory against ISIS.
People of Albaghdadi and Haditha have endured starvation, have been parched, suffered the loss of loved ones, fought and held their ground for over two years, al-Rawi said.
“This is a great achievement that we hold high, freeing the road will contribute to delivering sustenance, medical supplies and gas to those who suffered besiegement,” al-Rawi said.
“The victory will motivate freeing the rest of cities and the western side of the governorate and persevering areas like Albaghdadi and Haditha,” al-Rawi added.
Lieutenant Nazem al-Jogheyfi reasserted that all air flights have been suspended for those departing from Baghdad’s Muthenna’s airport and heading to Haditha,
given that the land route is now secure and viable for civilian travel. The secured road covers the area from Albaghdadi all the way to west of Anbar.
The lieutenant clarified that the path was cleared from ISIS planted explosives.
“The road now is secure for both military and civilian vehicles; with this achievement, the two-year barricade has finally been lifted,” al-Jogheyfi added.
Security and support forces have spread their control over the territory, he explained.
After freeing Ramadi, west Ramadi, Hit and Kabisa; counterterrorism units, the seventh trooper group, the Jazeera and Badiya Operations Command, police, tribal fighters and massive coverage from the air force and army have all contributed decisively to the battles and registered triumph against the terrorist groups.
The Hit- Albaghdadi road, extending for over 33 kilometers, has been completely restored into authority and cleansed from ISIS militants, al-Jogheyfi said.
