Cologne – Germany announced on Tuesday the arrest of two Syrians on suspicion of belonging to terrorist organizations.

The General Prosecution announced in a statement that counter-terrorism units arrested the two men for allegedly belonging to foreign terror groups. One is suspected of carrying out the execution of a fellow Syrian in the city of Tabqa.

Abdul Malek A., 30, and Moussa H.A., 23, were arrested on Monday in the states of Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt during raids on their apartments. They were charged with belonging to the terrorist al-Nusra Front.

Abdul Malek is strongly suspected of being a member of ISIS and of carrying out attacks by the group. The Germany General Prosecution also accuses him of committing crimes against humanity when he was among ISIS’s ranks in Syria.

The two suspects faced a judge on Tuesday where the charges were laid against them.

Investigators believe that the two detainees are probably linked to a sleeper cell, whose members were gradually arrested from a period extending from Christmas 2016 until today.

The General Prosecution had previously arrested Syrian Zuheir J. in the Bavaria province on suspicion of belonging to al-Nusra Front and ISIS. He was also suspected of preparing terrorist attacks.

The suspect is linked to another Syrian, Abdul Fattah A., 35, who was living in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg. He was detained shortly before Christmas 2016. Police found in his apartment an explosives belt and a fire arm.

Abdul Fattah participated with Abdul Rahman A., 26, in the execution of 36 Syrian regime members in the Tabqa in March 2013. Abdul Rahman was also arrested in Baden-Wurttemberg.
