Cologne – German police have detained a Bahraini national, who was accused of leading a secret terrorist organization in his country and applied for asylum in Germany in 2015.

The Public Prosecution in Germany issued a statement on Friday saying that the counter-terrorism unit arrested Fayyad A., 27, in Neukolln neighborhood in Berlin on Thursday.

Fayyad was arrested on charges of preparing for acts of violence that threatens the state’s security, according to the public prosecution.

It denied any relation between him and the detained terrorist Anis Amri, 24, who carried out a truck-ramming attack at a Berlin Christmas market in December 2016.

Fayyad has been granted political asylum in Germany since 2015 and has been living with his family in Berlin since then, according to press sources.

These sources added that the Bahraini government has issued an order to arrest Fayyad two weeks ago as the latter was leading a secret terrorist organization of 50 people in Berlin.

Bahraini authorities arrested 25 people in March 2016, who were accused of preparing terrorist operations in Bahrain.
