Aden – Yemeni academics revealed that Aden University campus was robbed and the university facilities were destroyed by militias.

President of Aden University Hussein Basalamah told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the Iranian scheme failed in Yemen. He added that the fact that the education process never ceased in the five southern districts is a challenge itself.

President Basalamah explained that only 13% of the government’s budget has been used this year. He went on to say that the university’s presidency decreased the tuition fees by 50% due to the difficult situations in the country and many students’ parents losing their jobs.

Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr said that Yemen’s unity of 1990 ended in war and destruction. He added that this situation can’t go on and unity must be maintained in its new democratic form.

Bin Daghr spoke during his meeting with Basalamah and members of the faculty. He called for abandoning political differences stressing that the number one enemy are the Houthis and pro-Saleh forces.

Bin Daghr stressed that the government acts according to its responsibility in Aden and all areas to overcome the water and electricity crises. He added that the government is working with local authorities to change the old policies that led to the current state.

PM bin Daghr also ensured that security in Aden is the government’s top priority. He praised the role of security forces, resistance, and Aden governor Aidarus al-Zubaidi. He also thanked the Emirati and Saudi Arab Forces for their role and efforts in regaining the government’s legitimacy.

Basalamah also praised the coalition for its political and military support.

During the meeting, PM bin Daghr listened to President Basamalah and the faculty members who presented a list of issues that concern the university and faculties. The delegation also discussed the cases of new employees and contractors.

Bin Daghr urged the president of Aden University to solve the issue of employees.

Basalamah also told Asharq Al-Awsat that students and faculty members’ insistence on continuing to attend classes and exams despite all the circumstances in Aden, Lahij, Shabwah and other areas is a challenge itself.

He explained that 16 thousand students went to classes in al-Saheb city north of Yemen despite all the difficult situations there.

President of the university noted that faculties of engineering, economics, business and many others were destroyed. He added that the presidency will do what it can to reconstruct the facilities.
