Doha- Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani welcomed the visit of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to Doha as part of his Gulf tour that kicked off on Saturday in the UAE.

The Qatari foreign minister told Asharq Al-Awsat: “For us, Saudi Arabia represents the Gulf and Arab strategic depth. The Qatari-Saudi coordination is held on the highest levels with a similar vision in several regional and Arab issues, particularly those related to enhancing the joint Arab efforts.”

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is on a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tour including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait where he will meet leaders and a number of officials to review relations discuss regional and international issues.

Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the visit of the Saudi King to his “second country Qatar as part of a GCC tour based on a long history of joint work and relations.”

The foreign minister also praised the “good initiative” launched by the Kingdom ahead of the 37th Summit of the Supreme Council of the GCC to be hosted by Bahrain and which reflects the harmony and the united stands of the Gulf and Arab states, particularly in light of the difficult circumstances facing the region. “This is a time where we most need to unite our stances,” he said.

Sheikh Mohammed also praised the GCC, saying it holds a geo-political importance at the economic, political and security levels.

“I reiterate Qatar’s keenness to enhance the joint Gulf efforts at all levels during the Arab leaders’ next meeting,” the foreign minister added
