Kuwait – Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim denied reports about a political crisis in the country, in the wake of some MPs interpellation of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah.

The speaker said that any interpellation of the government officials “must not be exaggerated beyond regular limits and must be within the right framework and context.”

“I also call on the various groups to calm the situation down and shoulder the responsibility for the current critical period of time at the national and regional levels,” he noted.

The majority of the deputies desire to calm down the situation and press ahead for achievable tasks, he said, adding that only a well-known minority was acting against this approach.

“I see no real crisis and I am quite confident that the atmosphere is positive and the spirit of cooperation and harmony will be restored,” the speaker added.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary Legislative and Legal Committee has approved the request of the Public Prosecution to lift the immunity of MPs Waleed Al-Tabtabaie, Jamaan Al-Harbash and Mohammad Al- Mutairi in relation to the legislative building storming case.

Speaking to reporters after the committee meeting on Sunday, Committee Chairman MP Mohamed Al-Dalal affirmed that majority of the panel members approved the request to lift the immunity of the three MPs accused of involvement in case number 946/2011 (storming of Parliament building). He added the committee postponed talks on the request to lift the immunity of MP Ahmad Nabil Al-Fadhel in case number (1849/2016) as it has yet to hear the opinion of the deputy in this regard.
