Kuwait–The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that it has arrested an Egyptian expat who planned to carry out “a terrorist act in the country.”
The brief statement said the unnamed Egyptian “is suspected of belonging to the organization that is called ISIS.” The statement didn’t provide any further details.
State-run Kuwait News Agency said that the Kuwaiti security forces have detained a suspected militant.
“After an initial investigation of the suspect Suleiman, who was born in 1988, by specialized security apparatuses, a hand-written note was found indicating that he had adopted the terrorist Daesh ideology and pledged allegiance to this organization,” KUNA said, referring to ISIS.
Media reports also mentioned that the authorities arrested more than one suspect planning to attack foreign residents in Kuwait.
Al-An Kuwait news website quoted an unnamed source as saying that Kuwaiti security forces have detained a suspected militant who rammed a truck believed to be carrying explosives into a car carrying five Americans. They discovered a letter with the suspect that is believed to be a will and a compensation letter for the owner of the vehicle promising to pay for the damages.
