Ramallah – Palestinian sources expected on Tuesday the US administration to suggest ideas ripe for negotiation concerning the most sensitive and disputed issues with Israel in the framework of reaching a peace agreement between the two sides.

“The Palestinians and the Israelis are waiting for a US plan that the White House is expected to propose ahead of resuming talks between both sides,” the sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.

The sources said the US plan may include ideas ripe for negotiation concerning the most sensitive issues: the borders, Jerusalem and the refugees. Both sides would discuss those ideas and amend them during negotiations that aim to please both sides.

A five-member Palestinian delegation would therefore travel to the US to discuss with five other US officials issues related to the final documents of the solution.

A similar Israeli delegation will also head to Washington for the same purpose.

The upcoming negotiations will be called the “Five Five” talks in a sign to the number of officials included in each delegation.

The sources also said that US President Donald Trump had himself asked Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to send the five-member delegation to Washington to discuss the expected US “deal.”

However, the sources said that the US opinions were still unclear, but will include political ideas and security plans, considering that the US is a guarantor for the solution.

Last May 23, Trump visited Israel and the Palestinian Authority and said he was committed to trying to reach a peace agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, a matter which he said was “possible and should be achieved.”

During his trip, Trump had exerted pressure on both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Abbas during their meeting in Jerusalem and Bethlehem to accept a solution. However, the Americans say that no official mechanism has been yet placed for the talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
