Cairo, London – United Nations envoy to Libya Martin Kobler announced on Monday that the international organization is preparing a roadmap to bring together all parties to the dialogue table in order to reach a solution to the country’s conflict.

He said during a press conference from Tunisia where he met Foreign Minister Khamis Alaghinawa: “It is time to take decisions. The country cannot wait much longer.”

“We have several initiatives and I have carried out trips between East and West to encourage political and military powers to meet and push the course forward,” he added.

He stressed that the UN should work on uniting all ideas and initiatives in order to bring together the Libyan parties and discuss issues at the dialogue table.

For his part, the Tunisian foreign minister underlined the role of the UN in reaching a peaceful and final solution to the conflict in Libya in cooperation with neighboring countries and in a manner that preserves its unity.

Meanwhile, Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli on a surprise visit, the second of its kind in as many weeks by an Italian official.

He met with Fayez Sarraj, the prime minister of the UN-backed government.

The visit reflects Rome’s interest in cementing the legitimacy of Sarraj’s government against armed militias that announced in recent days what amounted to a mutiny when they refused that Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala remain in his position.

They were protesting against the minister’s declaration that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar is the commander of the National Libya Army and that he was appointed by the internationally-recognized parliament.
