London – The University of Essex is one of the most renowned universities in the local and international academic circles for two reasons: the first is political, as Essex was among the top universities which witnessed students’ protests to oppose the Vietnam War in the sixties.

In 1968, Essex’s students visited Enoch Powell, the British politician and parliament member who had opposed migrations and migrants at that time.

The second reason is the distinguished academic position achieved by the university worldwide and in several fields, the human sciences and sociology in particular. Many experts still consider the University among the best universities in Britain and the world, especially in fields like sociology, philosophy, political sciences, history, and economy. Essex also enjoys a fine reputation in the field of biology, psychology, electronic engineering, teaching, and scientific research.

Essex University, which was established in 1963 in Colchester, England, had received its Royal Charter two years after its establishment, in 1965. The university’s largest campus is within Wivenhoe Park, in the city of Essex, less than a mile from Wivenhoe and two miles from Colchester.

The university is organized into three faculties, comprising 17 schools and departments, spanning the Humanities, Social Sciences and Science and Health. It also embraces 36 centers and institutes covering many majors, especially human rights and law. According to the university’s official website, departments of economy, political sciences, sociology, and language and linguistics are considered among the top across Europe.
