New York- British Ambassador Matthew Rycroft has said that UN Security Council members call on all Yemeni parties to abide by the ceasefire and work with UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed to achieve a sustainable political solution that would bring long-term stability to Yemen and end the crisis.

Rycroft, who is the president of the Security Council for the month of March, called on all parties to the conflict to do more to facilitate the humanitarian and commercial imports through all ports in Yemen, and respect international humanitarian law.

He also noted that the UN Security Council expressed profound concern over the increasingly grave situation in Yemen where civilians are paying the highest price of the ongoing violence.

Speaking to the press after a closed-door Council meeting, the British Ambassador to the UN said that the Council is fully supportive of the Special Envoy to Yemen’s tireless efforts to find an end to the conflict.

On the other hand, the United Nations revealed the names of the five-member Panel of Experts on Sanctions on Yemen whose mandate expires in March next year.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres referred in a letter he sent to the Security Council to Resolution 2342, under which the 15-member body would extend the term of the experts Panel until March 28, 2018.

It requested that the Panel provide a midterm update to a Security Council committee no later than 28 July 2017, and a final report to the Security Council no later than 28 January 2018, and directed it to cooperate with other relevant expert groups, including the Council’s Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring teams.
