New York- President of United Nations General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft welcomed the “Saudi 2030 Vision” saying that it specified a group of goals to achieve a vibrant civil society, nourished economy and an ambitious nation through programs and implementable plans.

He noted that the vision is consistent with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Paris Climate Deal.

Lykketoft said in an exclusive statement to Asharq al-Awsat that the Saudi vision is ambitious and is based on transparency and openness, with major guidelines to improve living standards and diversify the Saudi economy.

He explained that the vision aims at providing better opportunities for partnerships with companies from the private sector and Saudis with promising job opportunities, in addition to creating an attractive environment for the sector.

“This new framework targets at building renewable energy sector so that it benefits from natural potentials to generate solar and wind powers, encouraging investments, and diversifying energy sources,” Lykketoft added.

The President of the General Assembly called the Saudi government to exchange experiences with the United Nations in order to proceed in its vision and to participate in international conferences that deal with the implementation of this vision.

The U.N. statements came after the Saudi Cabinet approved an economic reforms plan on the 25th of April that was entitled “Saudi 2030 Vision”. The plan was announced by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz during the Council of Economic and Development Affairs’ session he chaired that day.

The vision aims at reducing dependence on oil-revenues, and it is considered a roadmap for economic and development goals.

The Deputy Crown Prince confirmed that the “Saudi 2030 Vision” represents the Kingdom’s economic and development goals for the coming 15 years, stressing that the vision will be launched regardless of the fluctuations in oil prices.

“Saudi Arabia possesses three strong points that no one can compete with us on, which are our Arab and Islamic depth, our investment strength and our geographical location,” the prince stated.

“King Salman Bridge will be one of the most land-crossing in the world as it will link Europe and Asia and will provide vast building and investment opportunities.”

He said the bridge will help move billions’ worth of cargo across the Red Sea.
