Posts vary according to locations and responsibilities; however the post of Governor of Mecca remains one of unique significance.

The announcement that named Prince Khalid al Faisal as the governor of the holy region of Mecca was received well due to Khalid al Faisal’s administrative legacy and experience, as well as his character.

He is an artist and a poet who weaves words of beauty from his rich imagination. He is the sportsmen who launched the Gulf Cup, the most successful and longest ongoing Arab tournament that still takes place today. He is the man of culture who pushed for the press media in the form of Al Watan newspaper. He is also the thinker and motivator of the giant project of the King Faisal Global Award and the organization that backs this project which had launched a series of university educational initiatives that are extremely important. He is the politician behind the Arab Thought Foundation that was introduced as an interactive response to the consequences of 9/11 upon the Arab region as a whole.

Khalid al Faisal has been honored with a post like no other. He is the governor of a region to which Muslims are emotionally attached. He is to assume a post that was first taken up by his late father King Faisal bin Abdulaziz, and which was later assumed by other leaders who did their best and worked hard to achieve progression in this blessed region. The region requires a number of services, such as the completion of its infrastructure, development of attracting investment, and the elimination of administrative complications and administrative elements that constrict investors, citizens and residents.

Development projects in Mecca need to be completed so as to improve its capacity of pilgrims of the Hajj and visitors. Also the province of Taif needs to retrieve its smile and happiness that it lost when its visitors abandoned it. Jeddah is in need of better maintenance as it still pays the price for the crisis of the drainage network.

The people of the Mecca region received the news of Prince Khalid al Faisal’s new role with relief and hope. The agenda of Mecca is full of aspiration and challenges.

There are a lot of problems that surround Mecca and the issues of development; however, there are also tremendous opportunities that need sound management, firmness and courage. It needs confidence that should be restored and hope that keeps on shining.

A state of despair and disbelief had fallen upon considerable parts of society in Mecca as they watch the status of Jeddah Port decline before other ports such as Dubai, Djibouti and Aden. They are shocked at the status of Jeddah Airport, and the level of begging and crime and the continuous incomprehensible “complications” that face economic, tourism, cultural and ideological development in the region.

Sports clubs are in need of more attention as the “promised” stadium of Jeddah has been awaited by the people for more than two decades now. Also, the newspapers of the region and its literary clubs are in need of serious reconsideration and review of their conditions. The Mecca region deserves unity to change its conditions.

The appointment of Prince Khalid al Faisal as governor of this region is a dream come true for Mecca. Prince Khalid al Faisal is the suitable man for a somewhat heavy task.
