Baghdad-At a time when Parliament Speaker Salim Jabouri confirmed on Saturday that Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi will be judicially held accountable whether the latter’s accusations of corruption were proven or not.

Obeidi denounced the leaking of confidential facts of the session, which was held last year and included military secrets that should not be shared with public.

Al-Jabouri tweeted: “If Khaled al-Obeidi’s accusations were proven — which is impossible—he will be judicially held accountable for covering up the facts.”

He added: “If Obeidi’s accusations were not proven –which for sure will happen—he will be held accountable for defamation and giving wrong information.”

On Saturday, Obeidi changed his plans and did not attend a tribal conference to support him after journalists decided to boycott it due to verbal fight between them and those who organized the event.

Moreover, opinions differed regarding Jabouri’s fate inside Sunnis House.

A meeting, which was convened on Saturday at Ossama Nujaifi’s house where Salim Jabouri, Saleh al-Mutlaqa, Iyad al-Sameraei and Mahmoud al-Mashhadani were present in addition to other Sunni leaders, “discussed repercussions resulting from investigating Iraqi Minister of Defense and all the accusations he pointed out to Salim al-Jabouri and a number of lawmakers and businessmen who are close to him and all the negative effects on Iraqi Coalition Forces Bloc and on the state; especially that prominent figures, including those from Shiite National Coalition, were against investigating with the minister in light of the state focusing on Mosul battle,” source close to the matter told Asharq Al-Awsat.
