Baghdad-Nineveh’s Governor Nofal al-Akoub is facing a wide political and popular outraged campaign due to his statements that were considered offensive for Mosul’s women.

Al-Akoub stated that “sexual jihad” in Mosul, which was occupied by ISIS, led to the birth of many children with unknown fathers.

Uniters for Reform Coalition (Muttahidoon Coalition), which is led by Usama al-Nujayfi, violently attacked Nineveh’s governor and denied that there was sex jihad in Mosul or that there was any child born with unknown father in the city.

Al-Nujayfi considered that all what al-Akoub said reflect the real him, according to al-Nujayfi’s statement.

For her part, Nineveh MP Intisar al-Jabouri confirmed in a statement for Asharq Al-Awsat that “sexual jihad” did not occur at all in Mosul city.

“According to my deep beliefs and detailed knowledge of what is happening in Mosul, Sexual Jihad did not occur at all, and there was no marriage between any woman in Mosul and an ISIS militant during those two years.”

She explained: “Many of those from Mosul who joined ISIS are already married, thus they did not perform any sexual jihad. Therefore, the governor shall be more accurate in describing facts instead of explaining himself after harming all Mosul citizens.”

On the other hand, al-Akoub issued a statement in the context of addressing the effects of ISIS’s occupation for Mosul for the past two years.

The governor mentioned kidnapped and raped women in addition to the births that took place during these two years. He also said that ISIS militants who raped these women either ran away or were killed, confirming that those women and children need therapy.
