Baghdad- After months of procrastinating and political disputes that almost caused a paralysis in the governmental, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has accepted the resignations of six ministers.

The Secretary General of the Council of Ministers said in a brief statement, “Al-Abadi approved the resignation of the ministers of oil, transport, housing and construction, water resources and industry, as well as interior”.

The statement did not mention the reason behind this collective approval of resignations after months of hesitation; however an Iraqi Parliament member said that the purpose of Al-Abadi acceptance is to pave the way towards appointing new ministers on a legal bases.

MP Mowaffak al-Rubaie told Asharq Al-Awsat that this step helps in not keeping the matter suspended. He said, “Al-Abadi intends to introduce during the coming weeks some new figures to occupy the vacancies and to determine the future vision”. Al-Rubaie added that this stage perplexed the government as lately there has been only two types of ministers: those who were dismissed and others who resigned but their resignations were not accepted.

The resigning ministers belong to Iraqi National Alliance (INA) of its three components: the Badr Organization, the Sadrists and the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq.
