Riyadh, Cairo – A Saudi-Egyptian summit aimed at tackling regional and international issues, as well as bolstering political, economic and security cooperation, is scheduled to be held in Riyadh on Sunday.

The two sides are keen on the stability and security of the Middle East after six years that have severely harmed the area.

Saudi Ambassador to Egypt, Ahmed al-Qattan, told Asharq Al-Awsat that King Salman bin Abdul Aziz had invited Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to visit the kingdom when they met during the recent Arab League summit in Jordan.

The ambassador stressed the strength of Saudi-Egyptian ties, saying they reflect the “spirit of fraternity between the two leaders.”

Moreover, the visit is part of the continuation of consultations between Riyadh and Cairo that will serve the joint interests of the two countries and Arab and Islamic Ummas.

He described the visit as “very significant” because it comes in wake of regional and international challenges, which demand constant coordination between the two major Arab countries.

King Salman and Sisi are expected to discuss bilateral ties and all Arab, regional and international issues, revealed al-Qattan.

They will also address counter-terrorism measures.

In addition, they will tackle all files and agreements that were addressed during King Salman’s visit to Egypt in April 2016.

“The visit will yield positive results on all fields,” stressed the ambassador.

Moreover, he said that Riyadh and Cairo are the “spine” of the region and history has proven that understanding and coordination between them has always benefitted the Arab and Islamic Ummas.

“It is time for comprehensive stability and security to be restored in order to confront the current and potential challenges,” he declared.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Nasser Hamdi meanwhile said that Sisi will head a high-ranking delegation during his Riyadh visit.

The two day trip will address bolstering strategic Saudi-Egyptian relations and tackling regional challenges, he stated.
