Riyadh- Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan convened in a summit in Riyadh on Wednesday as both parties discussed the latest developments at regional and international arenas.

They also discussed aspects of cooperation between the two brotherly countries and ways of enhancing them in all fields.

Then, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the King of Jordan attended a signing ceremony of establishment of Saudi-Jordanian Coordination Council.

The minutes of establishment of Saudi-Jordanian Coordination Council was signed by Dr. Nizar bin Obaid Madani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Nasser Judah, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and Expatriates Affairs.

The meeting was attended by Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh Region; Prince Dr. Mansour bin Mutaib bin Abdulaziz, Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet and Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques; Prince Khaled bin Faisal bin Turki, Saudi ambassador to Jordan; Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf, Minister of Finance; Dr. Essam bin Saad bin Saeed, Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet; and Dr. Nizar Obaid Madani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

King of Jordan’s delegation that attended the meeting included Prime Minister, Minister of Defense Dr. Abdullah Ensour; Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Dr. Fayez Al-Tarawneh; Jordan’s minister of foreign affairs, Deputy Prime minister of Jordan Nasser Judeh; Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, King’s Advisor to Military Affairs General Mashal Al-Zaben; King Abdullah II’s special envoy to Saudi Arabia Bassem Awadallah; Director of King Abdullah’s office Jafar Hassan; Minister of Planning & International Cooperation Emad Fakhoury; and Jordanian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Jamal Shumaila.

The two sides issued a joint communique outlining agreements and understandings reached following talks between the two Kings and assuring the historical relations that connect the two Kingdoms.

The statement said the decision to set up the council followed a visit earlier this month to Jordan by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on an invitation from King Abdallah II.

The meeting in Jordan had seen the two sides agree on measures to fight terrorism, deal with conflict in the regions, and counter the influence of Iran in several countries.

The council, co-chaired by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, would “enhance political consultations and coordination regarding bilateral, regional and international issues” with meetings held periodically, the statement said.

On the other hand, the Jordanian ambassador to Riyadh Jamal Shumaila told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Saudi-Jordanian summit comes in the framework of reinforcing strategic cooperation between the two countries in different fields.

He also confirmed that it reassures people that their leaders are working for the sake of them and their countries in order to protect them from any foreign interventions, in addition to reviewing effective mechanisms to solve conflicts and disputes faced by the region.

The summit underlined the importance of coordination and continuous consultation between the two monarchs, the Jordanian ambassador said. It tackled the situation in Syria and Yemen and the tensions in Libya and Iraq, in addition to the instability that some of the regional countries are facing.

Jamal Shumaila also noted that the visions and ideas of the two wise leaderships are harmonious, which enhances strategic integration in dealing with pressing issues.

Moreover, the ambassador said this summit will offer the people of Jordan and Saudi Arabia stability and prosperity, stressing that the coming period will witness massive activities to translate what was settled in Riyadh into implemented projects.
