Paris Condemns Iranian Assault on Saudi Embassy

French Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bertrand Besancenot, confirmed that Paris supports Riyadh and strongly condemns the Iranian attack on the Saudi Embassy and its Consulate in Iran. He pointed out that this behaviour was a clear violation of the Vienna Convention, and was the reason behind denouncing and condemning Iran on a large scale, as said by his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Besancenot added in a statement for Asharq Al-Awsat that it is important to accelerate the reform of the Iranian act and return to dialogical and diplomatic work in order to contribute to security, peace and stability making in the Middle East. He emphasized the wide Arab and Gulf stance that crystallized through conferences held in Riyadh and Cairo to issue a joint Arab stance.

Bertrand Besancenot believes that the Arab decision proves that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a land for all the Arabs and Muslims and that any act of violation against the country is considered a violation against the security of all Arabs and Muslims. This, in his opinion, means that Tehran needs to review its aggressive policy and rush towards regaining relations with Saudi Arabia to contribute to stability-making in the Middle East, which has been suffering from turmoil for a long period now.

The French Ambassador considers Saudi Arabia as a pivotal country in the Middle East that can be useful on both political and economic levels, if good relations are established with it. He also highlighted the major role it plays in combating terrorism, and the efforts exerted by the Kingdom which are positively reflected on international peace and security, in addition to its efforts in finding political solutions in Syria and Yemen.
