South Korea and Riyadh to Cooperate on Nuclear Energy and Other Sectors

Riyadh- Kwon Pyong, South Korean ambassador to Saudi Arabia, told Asharq Al-Awsat that his country is working with Riyadh to improve the level of strategic cooperation between the two countries. Domains of cooperation will broaden to include technology on manufacturing, nuclear energy, communication and many other sectors.

The Korean ambassador clarified that Riyadh and Seoul are deepening the roots of their relationship through collaborating on visions and strategic plans, considering Saudi Arabia the most important country in the Middle East.

He also pointed out the significant role the Saudi Kingdom is playing decisively in its fight against terrorism. The Kingdom had firmly defined its stance on supporting the fight against terrorism on an international scale, for the sake of peace and security in both the Middle East and the world.

The Korean ambassador repeatedly stressed that cooperation with Riyadh is an ongoing effort.

He stated that efforts on dealing with knowledge-economy (technology and use of knowledge) will reflect positively on the near outlook of both countries. Pyong also praised the Saudi strategy on reinforcing its economy for achieving sustainable development, comparing the Kingdom’s economic orientation to that of his country when broaching the importance of Knowledge-economy and the sustainability of development.

On South Korea’s current status, Pyong asserted that his government is in constant-effort mode, and is very concerned with all the agitation going across the region. He said that the global community is well-informed of South Korea’s fourth nuclear testing. Meanwhile, North Korea had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), defying all sanctions imposed by the U.N. Security Council.

Pyong regarded North Korea’s current plan to be one of the greatest direct threats to world peace and security. With its recent nuclear testing, North Korea must be well noticed on the sanctions consequential to breaching international law. Launching an ICBM is a clear violation to U.N. Security Council Law, thus it is urgent to call for immediately aborting the mission.

Moreover, Pyong strictly warned North Korea of such intrusions that will bring about a violent response from the global community. When North Korea resumes with launching more ICBM, threatening world peace and security, it does not only endanger both Korean states, but also the Middle East and the whole world.

South Korea will work on acquiring ready hydra-barriers and fully equip them with artillery for confronting any needling around the edges coming from North Korea. Pyong assures that South Korea will save no effort in preserving the lives of its people and maintaining world peace.
