Riyadh – Saudi Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources Khaled al-Faleh announced the launch of the King Salman Renewable Energy Initiative, which consists of 30 projects to produce 10 gigawatts of renewable energy.

During the Saudi Arabia Renewable Energy Investment Forum in Riyadh on Monday, Faleh said that the majority of electricity will be generated from solar energy, in addition to wind and thermal power, in all regions, through 30 projects over the next seven years.

He pointed out that the launch of this initiative came after Riyadh took necessary procedures and essential steps to develop the industry of diverse and integrated energy. This reinforces the kingdom’s position as the biggest and most trusted provider of energy in the world.

“Under Saudi Vision 2030, several government bodies were restructured and this enabled the ministry to easily and quickly kick off several development measures,” said Faleh.

“This approach will contribute in achieving national goals and international commitments of the kingdom regarding climate change and protecting the environment,” he added.

The minister of energy, industry, and mineral resources stated that the initiative was based on following the highest levels of transparency in launching renewable energy projects, developing renewable energy industry and related industries and transferring and nationalizing adequate techniques.

“We aim at making Saudi Arabia a source of techniques and innovations in this field,” he added.
