Erbil – The Iranian military and security delegation that arrived to Sulaymaniyah governorate for reconciling members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) had left to Tehran without any progress.

The delegation was formed of members of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and returned to Tehran because the problems deepened and couldn’t be contained anymore.

A Kurdish official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that Iranian involvement in internal matters of PUK is not something new.

He explained that Iran had always been involved like when the Tehran treaty was declared which involved deputies of the Sec Gen of PUK, Kosrat Rasoul Ali and Barham Salih with Hero Ibrahim Ahmed, the wife of former president Jalal Talabani.

According to the source, the special treaty dictated that Hero will be responsible of the financial matters of the party, Rasoul Ali the political and administrative matters, while Saleh will be in charge of the diplomatic relations.

Yet, this agreement failed and had no positive outcomes.

He added that the problems this time are deeper than before, and that is why the Iranian delegation arrived to the city within 24 hours of the announcement of the deputies and other members that they will be forming decision center to limit the mobilization of Hero Ahmad.

The source went on to say that the delegation came in favor of Hero who has close ties with Iran, but failed once again.

He explained that Iran had always tried to mediate between the parting members especially when the delegation headed by Barham Saleh visited Iran.

Saleh was accompanied by Shalao Rasoul, representing his father the deputy, Adnan Mena, representing the military part, Commander Erslan Bayez and other members.

Iran wanted to deter the delegation from withdrawing from the party to avoid creating problems within it. Tehran managed to control the situation and maintain certain stability for a period of time. Yet, the interventions increased especially regarding the position of head of Sulaymaniyah council.

The official added that the Iranian delegation wanted to reinstall negotiations between all parties and intensify its attempt to organize a convention, then retaliate against the leadership by granting Hero and her people several positions at the party. The decision center failed all those attempts.

For its part, the central council led by commander Adel Murad, who is close to the Iranian regime, declared that any member or commander who doesn’t comply with the directions will be subject to questioning.

According to commanders of PUK, Adel Murad works under direct orders from Iran to empower Hero and help her in dominating the party in an attempt to maintain the Iranian interests.
