Erbil-Iraq’s Mosul, which has been controlled by ISIS for the past two years, witnessed curfew after U.S.-led coalition forces dropped leaflets over the city and other areas in Nineveh Province requesting people to stay indoors for three days, starting from October 1.

Media Official at Nineveh organizations center of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Ghiath Surji told Asharq Al-Awsat that according to information he had received, “For the past two days life in Mosul was put on hold as civilians did not leave their houses, the city’s shops were empty and neighborhoods were silent; even ISIS militants weren’t seen in the city.”

Surji added: “ISIS militants are … preparing to confront any operation on the city’s right side. They are digging tunnels and trenches and are mobilizing their forces.”

He confirmed that the left side of the city is calm given that, geographically, it is an extension to Kurdistan Region.

He also noted that ISIS militants, especially their Iraqi leaders, have started offering their houses and real estates for sale whereas other foreign and Arab ISIS militants have begun moving their families to unknown locations, secretly at night.

The media official said that U.S.-led coalition air strikes are mainly targeting ISIS leaders in Mosul and its outskirts.

He added that the terrorist organization shot to death on Saturday three activists in Mosul for working with the resistance against the organization in the city.

For his part, the media official in Kurdistan Democratic Party in Mosul, Saeed Mmousine, revealed that the number of ISIS members killed in September in the city and its outskirts reached around 538 militants.

“Most of them were killed by Peshmerga forces, U.S.-led coalition air strikes and internal disputes among ISIS militants,” Mmousine said.

Among those killed were 32 prominent leaders, including Walid Adel Hassan Fayad, known as Dr. Walid, who was the Information Minister of the terrorist organization.

On the other hand, the number of citizens shot dead by ISIS in Mosul has amounted to 119 in September, while 180 citizens were detained.
