Mass grave found as Palmyra post liberation from ISIS

Beirut- The Syrian Opposition read the recent U.S. declaration of plans to re-launch a new training program for Opposition factions as a reflection of U.S. awareness of how necessary it is to support the Opposition to stand in the way of the regime taking control over areas freed from ISIS.

Different sources revealed that a mass grave was found in Palmyra’s ancient city, which was recently freed from ISIS dominance. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, speaking on behalf of the people, expressed fears of regime forces taking revenge over citizens and dreads of the ISIS planted mines spread around the city.

Data indicates that the mass grave constitutes of 42 corpses belonging to civilians and military men executed by ISIS. A military source said that the 18 bodies are those of military men, while 24 belong to regular civilians, most of which are families of soldiers, A.F.P reported.

Free Syrian Army (FSA)commander Abu Ahmed al-A’simi told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that military developments has faced the international community with a new scenario, especially the U.S., two definite futures shall be chosen, either regime forces take over previously ISIS domineered areas, or the Syrian Opposition get presented with the help necessary to prevent regime forces from taking control.

The FSA commander said if regime forces conquer all the areas freed from ISIS, it would directly reflect on the political solution; the regime, standing from a stronger point of view will hence refuse any political proceedings.

However, looking into recent declarations of U.S. officials, al-A’simi believes that the U.S. will be opting to strengthen Opposition forces.
