The Syrian opposition yesterday increased their conditions for participating in the new round of negotiations with the regime that are scheduled to take place on the 9th of March in Geneva.

The deputy head of the Syrian opposition negotiating delegation George Sabra told Asharq Al-Awsat that there is no room for the launch of talks with the regime in the absence of international resolve to adhere to the conditions of the ceasefire, the regime’s commitment to release detainees, and the regime’s commitment to abstain from confiscating aid.

The head of the negotiating team Assad al Zubi told Asharq Al-Awsat that “everything that the international community led by Russia and the United States is doing shows that they are placing obstacles in the political solution’s path”.

Meanwhile, the United States announced yesterday that it is establishing a new military air base in Kurdish controlled areas in northern Syria. It is expected that the United States will end its work at the air base in rural Kobani during the next few weeks and it will be used for civilian and military purposes.

With regards to the delivery of aid to affected areas in Syria, the Advisor to the Saudi Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Organization Dr Abdullah Al Rabeeah and the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Elhadj As Sy signed an agreement yesterday regarding an executive joint programme to implement the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz’s directives to provide aid to the worst-hit areas in Syria.
