Aden- Al Qaeda militants evacuated on Tuesday both Zinjibar and Jaar, some of the largest settlements in the Abyan governorate located in Yemen, sources aware of the matter confirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

Militant terrorists left subsequent to an agreement reached by tribal leaders mediating between al Qaeda and national army forces allowing the army to take control of the two towns on Wednesday.

Sources confirm that members of the Abyan governorate Popular Resistance are currently deployed in Zinjibar and Jaar after al Qaeda’s withdrawal towards the Marjan valley in Abyan and the Azzan valley in the Shabwah governorate, two of the most strategic landscapes of the area.

They also add that national army and security units will protect all governmental and institutional facilities, which have been largely destroyed after the 2011 Abyan war.
