For his part, U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Matthew Tueller told Asharq Al-Awsat that the new administration seeks a political solution for the conflict in Yemen which boosts the U.S. regional security goals.

This common point of view between the two countries was there from the beginning when the U.S. launched consecutive campaigns to fight terrorism around the world.

Since 2002, Yemen has been one of the most countries that receive U.S. drones to be able to target members of al-Qaeda terrorist organization in the Arabian Peninsula in addition to the military aids to combat terrorism.

Tueller said that operations will carry on against al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula(AQAP) and against ISIS in Yemen, and the U.S. will seize every opportunity, with continuous consultation and cooperation with the government in Yemen, to attack and destruct the terrorist groups there.

He further noted that the only solution for the challenges posed in Yemen would be through a comprehensive peace agreement, under the U.N. auspices, which takes into account the political, social, and democratic aspirations of the Yemeni people.
