Deputy Crown Prince meets Saudi students at Chinese universities and discusses with them topics of interest to Saudi youth (SPA)


Tokyo, Beijing–Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, arrived in Japan on Wednesday on an official visit upon the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and in response to the invitation of the Japanese government.

The deputy crown prince was received at the airport in Tokyo by Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Kentaro Sonora, Japanese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Norihiro Okuda, Saudi Ambassador to Japan Ahmad Al-Barak and a number of Japanese officials and members of the Saudi Embassy in Tokyo.

The visit to Tokyo comes following an official stay in China, where Prince Mohammed met with Chinese President XI Jinping and a number of high-ranking officials.

During the meeting with the Chinese president on Wednesday, the deputy crown prince reviewed bilateral relations and the best means to develop strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The top officials also discussed the latest developments and regional and international issues of common concern.

Following the meeting, the Chinese president held a dinner banquet in honor of the deputy crown prince and his accompanying delegation.

Meanwhile, Prince Mohammed sent a cable of thanks to China’s Vice President Chang Gao Li, who is also Permanent member of the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee Political Bureau.

Prince Mohammed expressed profound appreciation and thanks to the Chinese vice president for the fruitful cooperation and high coordination reached during the visit, citing the convening of the first Saudi-Chinese High Level Committee, lauding the positive outcomes of the bilateral talks that confirmed the firmness of the strategic relations between the two countries and their wish to further deepen cooperation in all fields according to the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and President Xi Jingping.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prince Mohammed met with State Councilor and Chinese Defense Minister General Chang Wanquan at the headquarters of the Chinese Ministry of Defense in Beijing.

The meeting, which was attended by officials from both countries, saw discussions over cooperation in the field of defense, in addition to a number of issues of mutual interest.

The deputy crown prince also met at his residence in Beijing with a group of Saudi students enrolled in Chinese universities.

Addressing the Saudi students, Prince Mohammed said he hoped that they return with sufficient scientific outcome to serve their homeland and contribute to the ongoing development represented by the implementation of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

The deputy crown prince also announced that, upon the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Saudi students who are studying in a number of accredited universities in China could join the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Foreign Scholarship.

On a different level, Prince Mohammed met with a group of businessmen from top Chinese companies.

Those included ZTE, Huawei, Chinese Aluminum (Chalco), the region’s economic and technological development in Tianjin (TEDA), Chinese Company for Construction and Communications (CCCC), China Company for Building Railways, Chinese Mining Company, China National Chemicals Institution (Kim China), POLY, NORINCO, CEIEC, AVIC, CATIC, CASIC, CPMIEC, and ALIT.
